How to use Fragrance Oils in Water

 When we talk about using fragrances in water we can be alluding to several different techniques.

 

The first is the use of scented oils in a simmering pot. Potpourri oils can be simmered just like the leaves in order to cause their fragrance to be released into the atmosphere.

 

Whenever I get a customer who asks me about how to use these oils more effectively my answer is always to add a few drops of the oil to the simmering pot and then to fill it up with water.

 

The water is converted into steam when it is heated which takes the fragrance into the atmosphere. The steam preserves the integrity of the fragrance so it doesn't smell burned and carries it out into the air very efficiently.

 

One warning that I give to all of my customers is to make sure that you NEVER add cold water to a hot simmering pot. This will cause the pot to crack and is a common mistake that many of them make.
