The wrong fragrance may evoke negative memories even if it is a good scent to wear, conversely the right fragrance may pay off in unexpected dividends if it evokes the right memories in the right person.
The right fragrance can remind us of a loved one, or a special time, place or event. Fragrances can bring back memories of loved siblings, parents, role models, friends, and lovers.
The fragrance of wood burning in a fireplace, fresh cut grass, and the pine smell of a Christmas tree were all associated with positive memories.

I have even heard of combat veterans who would have horrifying memories based on fragrances that had ingredients that reminded them of something that they had smelled on the battlefield.
I was turned on to actually wearing coconut as a scented oil fragrance by a young Jamaican customer. He saw the fragrance in my retail store one day and begin to proclaim its virtues. I tried it and each time I use it I get compliments from many different women. Maybe because its unusual but whatever the reason may be, the important point is that they like it.
